Applying for the perfect job online... |
Get a response from online job postings
By: Fetch! Recruiting April 24, 2009
The
employment market has changed drastically in the last 6 months –
obviously. If you are one of those currently out of work looking and
frustrated with no responses then see if the following will help.

1. Slow down -
You might feel an initial panic to rush out and apply to every
potential job... this spam approach will not get you the results you
want - try it and see.
- An
effective job search begins with a clear idea of your target job. As
the saying goes, if you don’t know where you’re going, you probably
won’t get there. Stay true to that target job and only re-evaluate
after you have exhausted all avenues for that job.
2. Search like crazy!
- Look everywhere... Indeed is one of the best sources for IT jobs in Toronto – it pulls jobs from all the major job boards into one searchable location.
- Search every day for jobs – look at all the major places then use networking sites like Linkedin to advertise your job search to your network (there’s nothing to be ashamed about in looking for work!)
3. Be Honest
- Be honest with yourself when applying – is this job realistic for you?
- Be honest about your skills... the truth will come out in a face to face interview or technical test.
4. Customize - everytime! - Are
you prepared to spend half an hour mapping your resume out to the job
description? If no then it’s probably not the right job for you...
- Speak
the same language - look at the buzz words the job posting is using and
use them in your resume. Look at the technical skills they want and
make sure those skills are obviously sticking out on your resume -
don’t make assumptions!
